Pastoral Letter

Thank you for visiting ~ we hope to see you soon!

Dear Provost Community Church Family,

Winter’s full force has begun to subside and Spring has officially arrived even if we are still waiting for the last of the snow to melt.   Life as a church family is filled with opportunities to live out our mission to share the love and compassion of Jesus.  As we have begun a new year I want to highlight for you a few things that have already happened in 2011 and plans we have for the coming months.

As most of you are aware, Chery Grosh’s time as our administrative assistant finished on Jan. 31 as she began a new position with Gregory’s Funeral Home.  After much prayer and discussion the Leadership Team has decided not to replace this position.  We have one congregation member who has volunteered to do the bulletin and update our website for us and we would gladly accept other offers of volunteer service.  Please submit your bulletin announcements to the church office and we will make sure they get included in the weekly bulletin.

At our Annual General Meeting in February we had a good time of discussion both about what did occur in 2010 and what we would like to see happen in 2011.  We have over 25 active families in our church family.  For us as a church to function well, we need each of these family groups to take a turn volunteering to help with tasks like cleaning the church.  If every family got involved, each family would only need to do it twice a year.  Please consider increasing your commitment level so that the work load is shared by every family in the church.  If you are looking for a place to serve in church, consider Kingdom Kidz or Freedom Student Ministries as they could both use more hands to share the load.  Find a place to connect your gifts with the ministry needs of our church; you will be blessed as you do so.  Also, at the Annual General Meeting the 2011 budget was set at just under $160,000.  Income for 2010 was just under $140,000 so we are asking everyone to consider giving more so that more people in Provost and area can experience the love and compassion of Jesus.  God and the people of the church once again proved faithful as expenses and income for 2010 were within $300 of one another.   Our financial summary reports are available to be reviewed if anyone wants to know how their donations were used.

In 2011 we would like to see the upstairs of the church building repainted.  This will occur once the Building Fund has enough money in it to purchase the paint.  We will be asking for volunteers to do the painting.  If you would like to give towards this project, please designate funds to the Building Fund on your Offering Envelope.  We also want to upgrade our Sunday morning worship by purchasing a piano.  This purchase will also be made once the funds are in hand.  If you would like to give towards this project please write in “Piano” on the other line of your Offering Envelope.

If you have kids who are ages 2-6 remember that we offer Kingdom Kidz for this age on Sunday during the service.  The older kids take turns helping with this class and staying in the service.   This is a great ministry and one that your kids will love.  Consider getting involved and helping to make this ministry happen.  If you have young people in Jr. or Sr. High, I hope you have them plugged into our great Youth Ministry. I want to commend Pastor Clay for the job he has done in connecting with the youth.  Alternating Wednesday’s and Friday’s Bible studies and outreach events take place.  Check out Freedom Student Ministries page on Facebook.

Over the last couple months we have been looking at different Bible characters and will wrap that series up in April by looking at the New Testament couple of Priscilla & Aquila.  On the weekend of April 15-17 Rev. Tim Beadle, our Church Effectiveness Coach, will be in town for the weekend.  He will be meeting with Pastor Clay and I, with our Leadership Team, will preach on Palm Sunday morning and will be sharing a devotional at a men’s breakfast we will have on Saturday, the 16th.  Easter Sunday (April 24) we will be joining with New Hope Gospel Church for a joint service at their building (5220 40 St.) at 11 am.  We will have Kingdom Kidz for ages 2-6 dismissed part-ways thru the service.  The sermons in May will have us thinking more about the significance of Jesus’ death and resurrection.  We will once again in May be joining New Hope Gospel Church for a joint service on May 15 to hear a presentation from Harold and Maureen Klassen.  Maureen grew up here in Provost and was part of the Associated Gospel Church.   Her and Harold have served for decades as workers with the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada and overseas.  Harold and Maureen now give leadership to PALM Ministries which works with new immigrants to Canada in Edmonton, Vancouver, and Toronto.

There are a couple other dates to mark on your calendar. First, mark May 9th as the ladies are planning their Spring Fling with guest speaker Shannon Sutherland Smith from Lloydminster and the theme will be "Creative Stitching" -  Psalm 139:13 (b) You did knit me together in my mother's womb.   Second, mark May 13th as we have our Great Giveaway happening again.  This is a chance for you to declutter your home but instead of filling the landfill with good condition articles that you no longer need, you can pass them along to others in the community.  We will need volunteers to help set up tables, receive donations, welcome community members as they shop, and clean up afterwards.  Please contact Iva Jean Wagner at (780)753-4992 for more information or to volunteer.

One more exciting development I want to tell you about is our desire to organize a couple’s Christmas event that would be a catered dinner with musical entertainment.  This evening will be organized by the Ladies Ministry Team and will be an adult social event replacing the Ladies Christmas Event. Our desire is to promote the name of Jesus thru quality entertainment containing a message of the good news of the season.  More details will be announced once we get a musical group booked.

Please remember to also pray for our church leaders as they give faithful leadership to the ministries of the church. We are excited about the direction God is leading us and look forward to journeying with you in your growing relationship with Jesus.
